DownHome Pharmacy opened on October 18, 2001 and the DownHome Pharmily numbered 6. We’ve grown in size over the years, both in employee numbers and services. With a growing business, land was bought in 2016 to start construction on a new building and move out of the location we had been renting since opening. Watching the building slowly go up, we were finally ready to move on Sept 1, 2018 and thanks to family and friends, were completely moved out of our old location by Labor Day. We were open to serve our customers in our new location Sept 4, 2018. We’re happy to have our 3 upstairs neighbors in the DownHome Apartments. As we looked to expand our service area we were excited to open our second location in Vinton, VA on March 20, 2024. While our business has grown and adapted over the years, we are proud to still be a full service, family owned pharmacy offering exceptional and personalized care!
Since we opened in 2001, our mission has remained the same, to provide patients with high-quality healthcare in a friendly, family-oriented, and patient-centered business that focuses on superior service and total patient care!
Not just any ordinary pharmacy, It's our family helping yours!
We go beyond providing basic pharmacy services to our patients. Instead we strive to meet the healthcare demands of our community by offering more specialized services. We take pride in not only meeting the healthcare needs of the community where we are located, but also supporting the area in other ways thru our involvement with local schools and nonprofits. At DownHome, we want you to feel like a member of our family.
Tim and Allison each received their degrees from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA (now VCU). They have dedicated the majority of their careers to serving patients in Botetourt and Roanoke counties. They moved to this community to raise their four children because Allison had grown up in Botetourt and knew how wonderful the area was. At the start of their careers, Tim and Allison both found themselves working in larger corporations. But because corporate pharmacy often involved doing what you’re told instead of doing what is needed to help the patient, Tim and Allison decided to open their own pharmacy, so they could get the bosses approval much quicker. Tim and Allison wanted to be an integral part of their community and felt as owners of their own pharmacy, they would be best positioned to help the community where they serve.
Kayla has worked at DownHome since we opened in 2001. Her job description has changed as she’s progressed through school, so getting her PharmD from VCU in 2022 was long awaited. Kayla is excited to join the family business as an additional pharmacist, but she hasn’t convinced Tim to retire quite yet. Instead, she opened our second location in Vinton. Stop by to see her there and check out our state of the art security system, her dog Paxil (yes he’s named after a medication). When not at the pharmacy, you can probably find Kayla at a hockey game or around town in her bright green Jeep.
Cory went to JMU for her undergrad education before earning her doctor of pharmacy degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA (now VCU). Cory grew working up in her dad’s pharmacy back in her hometown. After completing her pharmacy education, Tim and Allison hired her part time in 2005, right out of school. Cory says that DownHome reminds her of home and her family’s pharmacy. Cory is now a proud mom of four, loves exercising and the beach, and when you see her at our Botetourt location, don’t be surprised if she’s wearing pink!
Stephanie completed her PharmD program at the School of Pharmacy at West Virginia University. Stephanie found a love for independent pharmacy during her first pharmacy job at an independent pharmacy back in her hometown in West Virginia. She worked there through pharmacy school. Once in Roanoke, Stephanie worked at another independent pharmacy in the Valley for 15 years before joining DownHome Pharmacy as a pharmacist at both of our locations. She is a proud mom to 2 daughters and her doodle Kali.
Our pharmacists are only a small part of the staff helping you in our pharmacies. Pharmacy technicians make a difference every day to support pharmacists and care for patients. Our technicians juggle multiple priorities and help deliver better service to patients than pharmacists could provide by themselves. We’d like to introduce you to a few of our amazing technicians: Keaton has been at DownHome since 2022 as both a regular technician and one of our compounders and hopes to go to pharmacy school in the near future, Kylee started at DownHome in 2020 and is our inventory specialist and head technician at our Vinton location, Kendall has been at DownHome since 2021 as our compounding technician and is in charge of making sure our specialty made products are made to our high standards, Tiffany has been at DownHome Pharmacy since 2016 and is often found notifying patients with important updates about their prescriptions, Kacey started at DownHome in 2024 and works at both of our locations to make sure our customers are always treated like family, Nate started at DownHome in 2020 and you’ll often see his smiling face when you come thru our drive-thru, Tina has been at DownHome since 2014 and is our go to girl for ordering specialty products such as compression hose, and Cristy has been at DownHome since 2014 and helps make sure our specialty packaging is completed in a timely fashion. Make sure to thank them for all their hard work!
